Polymer clay artist Cathy Braunlin is a native of Indiana, born in Indianapolis and now residing in Bloomington with her husband and two children. "I have been involved in art for as long as I can remember. I come from a very artistic family, with both my parents being fine artists, and studied a variety of media growing up," she says. Cathy discovered her love for polymer clay in 2001 while making holiday miniatures. Her artistry is evident in the painstaking detail of her pieces. "I started by making miniature Christmas trees and gingerbread houses and knew something had clicked with me. From there it has evolved into what I make today and I'm sure will continue to grow as I discover new ways to use the clay creatively," Cathy states. In addition to her beloved miniatures and holiday ornaments, she now creates a variety of artistic pieces from functional to decorative. Cathy has received numerous awards and recognition for her work, including first place, fine arts division and the Governor's Choice Award at the 2003 Indiana State Fair. In 2006 she received a second place in the National Polymer Clay Guild's Progress and Possibilities '06 international juried exhibition. Her affiliations include the National Polymer Clay Guild, Indianapolis Art Center and the John Waldron Art Center. She gives polymer clay demonstrations for various groups as well as private and class instruction. |
